I’m struggling, folks, struggling! I’ve taken to sniffing a jar of grape jelly when the mood strikes. And a confession: I failed twice yesterday. Both times were complete accidents, I promise. The first time I was filling Grandma’s teddy graham jar and I popped a few in my mouth. Shucks. The second time, I was eating a sandwich made on a white roll. It had been sitting in the fridge for a while and I figured it ought to get eaten. 3 bites in I realized what I was doing. The chickens enjoyed the rest of it. I am so, so sorry. I can do better than that! I will do better than that!
Seeing as how I’m doing this challenge now, I figured I ought to get a list together of all the sweets I CAN eat during the next 6 weeks. If you are on this journey with me, enjoy!
Last week I made Egg Custard sans sugar…used agave instead. Just substitute 1/3 cup organic agave for all of the regular sugar. It’s less sweet because there isn’t near as much sweetener in it but it was still good.
Honey Milk Balls…naturally processed sugar-free.
Blender Ice Cream…I’ll use 2 T of honey or agave instead of the cane sugar.
Fruit Juice Gelatin…I want to try some different variations of this. Grandpa likes jello, too, so maybe I’ll make some for him.
Oatmeal Carrot Cookies…a treat I made while on my last no white sugar spree.
Fruit and Almond Balls…chock full of fruit so you’ll never miss the sugar.
I guess that about covers it. Wow, I call this a healthy blog and that’s all the processed junk free sweet treats I came up with? I need to work on that one. Maybe I’ll be able to add these to the stash over the next few weeks:
Vanilla pudding (hopefully I’ll get that recipe up soon…I use agave instead of sugar and it’s delicious)
Cherry Almond Rice Pudding (uses honey…posting this one soon!)
Gingerbread Muffins from Nourishing Gourmet
Lemon Curd Bars, also from the Nourishing Gourmet
Power Bars from Elana’s Pantry (but goodness, I might start to rack up a grocery bill if I’m not careful!)
Any other suggestions to tame my sweet tooth with healthy goodness? I do plan on eating some more savory snacks as well. You know, trying to get away from quite as much of any sweetener. I just know I have to take it a bit slow. Cold turkey and I’d be right back at eating angel food cake and angel whispers.
Just to remind myself, I should make a little list of savory snacks as well.
Hardboiled eggs with salt and vinegar
Whole wheat bread with butter and honey
Wheat berry salad with red fruit (recipe forthcoming…and actually I guess this is sort of sweet even though there isn’t any straight sweetener in it, just OJ and fruit)
Plain cooked beans (love them!)
Sure, there’s lots of other things I could add to these lists. Some I’ll post them if they are good and fun. And if you have any glorious suggestions, let me know. I’m a snacker. I need me some munchies!
